I don’t even remember this playing in the show after I browsed through the OST. It’s one of the only songs worth keeping, IMO. It reminds me of Chrono Cross’s ‘Chronopolis’, and Moby’s ’7′. http://www.last.fm/music/Moby/_/7

Regarding Metropolis, it’s well worth a watch as a curiousity, and the design work still impresses. Thematically it’s interesting too, examining worker/capitalist relationships, and being produced during the Wiemar Republic. Sadly, substantial bits of it have been lost

Sounds excellent, havint actually seen GL yet but I get the same feelings about a good soundtrack, goods soundtracks are MASSIVELY important to really bolster the animation and get the point across in an almost primal manner.

I was really happy to finally get the full OST for Gurren Lagann since a lot of stuff was missing on the best compilation. I think my favorite new track on this is track 1 but there is definitely a lot of good stuff. Gurren Lagann had one of my favorite OST’s of 2007 but then again I love Taku Iwasaki in general, especially his work on the Kenshin OVAs.

@einhorn303: I’ve listened to the track I’m talking about in this post, which is awesome. I’ve skimmed through the track Anonymous mentioned. Another great, underrated song from the OST is “Poison Prison”, which is track 19 on Disc 2. Seriously great music. Just listening to it I’m reliving so much of the fun I had watching Gurren Lagann.

@IKnight: I haven’t seen Metropolis (the German film), but it sounds quite good and seems to be referenced as a classic. Would you recommend it?

@Anonymous: No idea. The translated title I’ve got down is “He is so Ã—Ã—Ã—”. With that said, it doesn’t sound like the kind of song that would have that kind of title.

Speaking of the OST, is it just me or does track 16 on disc 1 spell out:

The ‘buildings-as-faces’ design struck me too, though this particular sequence didn’t stay in my memory. That last image is like a more colourful version of the cityscape in (the old, live-action, silent) Metropolis.
