One Piece – I want to live!!

The time of writing this is 00:01; mid-night. I’m up for work tomorrow at 07:15. I should be in bed, but instead, I’m wide awake, filled with the burning passion to write this post, to write anything about One Piece. It’s kind of odd, really, I mean, why? What is it about anime — and especially One Piece — that refills my engine? It’s such an intangible feeling, or passion"¦, or whatever.
I just want to sound off on Nico Robin’s back-story. I want to say that Saulo was a really awesome giant, and his death was totally cool (pun intended?). I liked his fake laugh; it’s kind of depressing (especially when Robin tries it), but heart warming at the same time. His last moments captured an epic, awe-inspiring and cofused mixture of loss and hope. Everything about the Buster Call attack was massive; a chilling sense of chaos is felt when we see library books being thrown from a window; all that knowledge, wisdom, history — to see them burnt to ashes by madness and fear is undoubtedly an unsettling, even creepy, sight to behold.
What else is there to say but "I want to live". To hear Robin finally say it was a great moment, and nearly as good as that was Sogeking destroying the World Government’s precious flag. They declare war on the world to protect their friends, and it’s at this moment, with all their lives on the line for her, that Robin finally decides to stop running, risk it all and believe in her nakama.

Damn. I love the One Piece manga, but I never got into watching the anime version, and posts like this one make me want to watch it… if only I had the courage to watch the 300+ episodes already released. orz

@Danny Choo: Nice to see you around these parts! It’s your fault that I signed up for Google Adsense last week 😉 As for One Piece – yeah, it’s not really a hot-topic in the blogsphere. But then neither is Naruto. Generally the hardcore otaku don’t seem to care much about the Shonen Jump anime.
And if you haven’t already, check out One Piece: Movie 6 – probably the best Shonen Jump movie ever produced (I know, that’s not saying much). The animation alone is absolutely fantastic.
@Skh: You know I’ll say it’s worth your time, but whatever, I’ll say it anyway – give it a chance. The thing with the One Piece anime is that it’s a fairly slow starter, but once you reach Nami’s Arlong Park – it steps up another gear and really comes into its own. I won’t forgive you if you’re watching something like Heroic Age instead of One Piece 😉

We had to wait… 200 chapters/150 episodes for her past – It was well worth it for the emotional rollercoaster that we had been shown. In my opinion, best past in One Piece.

just stumbled upon your one piece blog whilst searching for pics. i have to say i agree completely with your post 🙂 sogeking shooting the flag, robins backstory and the strawhats on the rooftops.. just fantastic!
